Yep, we're back.

Inaugural plunging of our toilet...
Seeing my students after they've grown an inch...
Sweeping a dead lizard up from our living room floor...
Passing people who stop and ask, "How are you?" and actually mean it...
Setting my [new] alarm clock to realize the rooster will crow anyway...
Realizing that pretzels and oreos are precious one again...
Cheering when the power comes back on...
Giving up on styling my hair...
Awesome weather...
Yep, we're back
...in Haiti!

We had a wonderful stay with family in the States this Christmas. It seems like the weeks went by way too fast, but it also feels like it has been an eternity since we've been in Haiti. Over the years culture shock has changed to "culture transition" which becomes easier every time.

Our friends who stayed here in Haiti over Christmas break told us about a new restaurant with ice cream, pizza [with cheese!] and burgers. This is RARE here. The co-owner even speaks english! Amazing. We went with them yesterday evening and had a great time complete with Celine Dion's (Haiti's favorite music artist) greatest music videos blasting on the big screen. The best part was that the restaurant is in a side street second story building. If you've ever eaten in public in the third world you know how great that location is. People tend to congregate and watch Americans wherever we go and in a world where people are hungry, it is altogether more entertaining to watch us eat. We're usually asked for our food or money and it becomes a session of guilt for eating in front of people and I wonder why I went out in the first place or if I'm selfish for eating meat, ice cream, goat, or...you fill in the blank. Ugh.

Moving along...
The ice cream was tasty and I enjoyed my favorite Haitian drink: Couronne!
Here we are:
